Poop Bread

The Times traveled to Korea to bring you this story. One should note that the food reported upon is not Japanese and is therefore ineligible to be a part of the Japanese Food Review series.

People often claim that Japan is a world leader in edible poop, but it seems that the Koreans are quickly catching up.

These were being sold at an outdoor stand in Seoul. They're called dong pang, or dong bang, or tong pang, or something (I don't speak Korean). Dong is a word for poop, and pang is a word for bread. Apparently Korean poop looks just like Japanese poop and just like soft serve ice cream in the rest of the world. These were similar to tai-yaki, the treat that's shaped like a fish and usually filled with sweet red beans (anko). The poop was filled with the beans and had a little bit of walnut as well. Nothing special. It was pretty good. They were only $1.

They had a sign that said Dong-tteria and looks like a Lotteria sign. Lotteria is basically a Korean McDonald's and is also quite successful in Japan.

Lotteria Merry Xmas

While people in America are wasting their time thinking about what to prepare for Thanksgiving, the Japanese are festively making reservations to eat fast food fried chicken on Christmas Eve. Most restaurants ask that you place your order buy the end of November. I know a lot of readers out there are too busy to look at advertisements themselves, so I've decided to place this unpaid advertisement on The Gaybot Times as a service to you. Lotteria has changed their menu slightly this year. They are still offering boneless chicken and juicy chicken pieces, but the french toast has been replaced by raisin danishes (a very risky move), and the pigs in a blanket have been replaced by ebi-dogs (think stick docks but with ebi instead of hot dogs. Also, ebi means shrimp). It appears Lotteria is taking a step backwards this year, though the 2 packets of Heinz Ketchup is a nice touch. Will one of Lotteria's competitors offer a more scrumptious menu? Check back soon to see if I remember to write about that!

The Colonel Wishes You a Merry Christmas

I think many people know that KFC chicken is considered a traditional Christmas dinner in Japan. You can actually pre-order your Kentucky Christmas bucket in October. Here's a look at a couple of the menus being offered:

It's got everything you'd expect to find on Christmas: a bucket of chicken, a special collectors edition Christmas plate, a Christmas salad, and a chocolate cake.

Recently, other restaurants are challenging KFC's monopoly. One popular alternative is Lotteria.

They offer a much more traditional looking Christmas cake. Also, they've swapped out the Christmas salad for french fries, pigs in a blanket, and french toast. Looks like Lotteria has won this round. Your move KFC. Kentucky Christmas 2013 better be something extra special.

Lotteria Creates Cute Wordplay

Lotteria, the Korean version of McDonald's, has special deals on Tuesday and Friday. Friday is Fri-day, which doesn't have anything to do with freedom fries. It's a special meal involving a fried shrimp burger and, for variety and health reasons, fried shrimp nuggets. Fun fact, girlbot got a horrible rash the last time she ate a shrimp burger here, and she's not allergic to shrimp. Kind of adds a sense of danger to your meal! Tuesday is Cheese-day, because Tues and Cheese are basically the same sound. You can get a cheeseburger and cheese chicken nuggets. That is all.
