Munenori Kawasaki

Even if you don't like baseball, you might want to start cheering for the Toronto Blue Jays so we can get some more speeches out of Munenori Kawasaki. Here's what he had to say after the their last series victory.

He's a backup second baseman, and not even on the active roster for the playoffs. He's kind of lucky that they even let him be there, but clearly he knows how to motive and get the team focused. Only two more until the bush party.

Character Spotlight: Fusan

When the Softbank Hawks win a baseball game a bunch of white jet balloons are released. The idea behind this year's new mascot, Fusan, is that he wants to someday fly with those balloons. He's a balloon.

The costume appears big enough for the person inside to move around and make it look like Fusan is bouncing on his head. That's kind of cool, but it's also cool that he can't get himself off the field.

Orix Buffaloes Animal Jerseys

This is an ad the Orix Buffaloes made for their special animal jerseys. They have all the cool, intimidating animals: giraffe, zebra, red panda, snake, sheep, panda, panther, flamingo, peacock, and black bear. It looks like they asked the players to try and pose like the animal they were wearing? Most of the players did what I would consider the "cute lady cat" pose. Here are some more pics on their site.

JONTE' with BsGirls!!!

My little brother's EXACT look alike is back in the news. He threw out the first pitch for an Orix Buffaloes game. But first the crowd of approximately 42 people was treated to a dance number performed by the BsGirls and Jonte himself! By the way, I think the team thinks that Bs is a good way to shorten Buffaloes. It's written on their hats instead of just a B. They also use it for Bs TV and Bs Time. Anyway, Jonte made the bold decision of painting all of his body except his face gold for no reason. I think it was probably done to match his high heel boots (which none of the girls chose to wear). The song they chose ended in applause which actually made more awkward when the music stopped and there was no one there to cheer.

Doragons

Today was opening day for baseball in Japan. Here in Nagoya, the Dragons were defeated by the Carp in 10 innings. Better luck tomorrow, Dragon baseball players. Every year the subway station near the Nagoya Dome is decorated with posters of all the players and some other photos from memory lane. This year, you can see every uniform the team has ever worn. The 1948 uniform was unusual because "Doragons" was written on the front instead of "Dragons." Doragons is taken directly from how the word is written in the Japanese katakana. Apparently the team had only been known as the Dragons for a year and hadn't had the name written on the uniform before. According to Japanese Wikipedia, the spelling was a mistake, but the team didn't have enough funds to correct the error and used the jerseys for the year.

One other thing of note, all of those lines pointing at the uniform just tell you what color each part of the uniform is. This seems like sort of an odd choice to do for a color drawing.

Ichiro's Dirty Secret

I used to think Ichiro was really cool because he's good at hitting balls and has a style only Ahmadinejad can compete with, but it turns out the dude's been powered by YUNKER all along.
