Japanese Food Review #72
Gari Gari is a type of cheap popsicle in Japan. It's a normal popsicle on the outside and chunky on the inside (it's supposed to be like a snow cone). Normally the flavors are sweet, but last year they made a corn pottage flavor popsicle, and this year we have a stew one. It should be pointed out that stew, pronounced shi-chew in Japanese, is almost always a white cream based stew in Japan. The package boasts that there are real potatoes inside.
First I licked the outside. It was sweeter than I expected. It was almost vanilla ice cream flavor, but then there was a fairly gross stew aftertaste. I bit in. It was not good, but clearly it was edible. Another bite. Hit a potato chunk. Pretty disgusting. It was a real potato, and it was soft, which means there's some weird chemical keeping it soft in the freezer. I took one more bite. Got a couple more potato chunks. Decided that was enough. I ran it under some water. Of course many of the chunks fell away, but you can see that there were a lot of sizable hunks of potato.
Ratings:
Gaybot: 2 It wasn't as bad as I was expecting, but it still shouldn't exist.
Girlbot: 3 She agrees that it's not that bad, but she can't eat it. She took one bite, seemed pleasantly surprised and said, "Hmm, it's very bad."
Overall: 2.5

Japanese Scientists Push Canned Tuna Technology to the Next Level
The scientists at the Hagoromo corporation have discovered a way to save us all roughly eight minutes a day. Let's walk through the normal human's morning: Wake up, open a can of tuna, reach in the cupboard, search and search for the canned corn, open a can of corn, mix and mix the corn and tuna.
Okay, now let us examine the world that Hagoromo has made possible: Wake up from excitement for breakfast, open ONE can!!!, enjoy life. Sounds good, doesn't it? Also, what a slogan, "Let's enjoy cooking with Seachicken and Vegetable." It kind of gets stuck in your head.

Sonicare Airfloss
Have you ever worried about not looking like a huge idiot while you were flossing? Has it occurred to you that you're not using nearly as much energy as you could during the flossing process. Do you hate using that disgusting thread. The scientists in Japan have answered your prayers once again.

Bento
People often ask me how they can make cute lunches similar to mine. The answer is simple: force a Japanese woman to do it for you. Of course, the follow up questions are usually something like, "Why do you only have one grape in there?" or, "What's that stuff on the right?" A lot of my 40 year-old co-workers seem super jealous.
A very special Easter bento. I appreciate these bentos, but I'm pretty sure you're supposed to make these for very small children. I'd imagine by age 10 you'd already be to cool for a bunny in your lunch.
I guess you could call these ai-bentos, or love bentos. It's pretty common for wives to make these for their husbands, especially newlyweds. There's some sort of lesson for you maybe.

Teddy Bear World (Waikiki)
When the Planet Hollywood in Waikiki shut down, some Koreans came up with a great idea: a really expensive place where people can see robotic teddy bears move around a little bit.
A beautiful color scheme.
Every patriotic child in America will want a picture with Barack Obearma.
Capitalizing on the Jurassic Park craze sweeping America.
Remember when your uncle died in that terrible bike accident? He's back.... in teddy bear form!
Little kids love Elvis. They'll also love the five minutes of real video of fat Elvis arriving in Hawaii that they're forced to watch before the teddy bear version comes out.
