Milky Cookies Review

Japanese Food Review #75

Milky is a brand of milk flavored taffy. That might sound weird/disgusting, but they're actually quite good. Still, it's not a flavor I would expect to translate well in cookie form. I just recently noticed these cookies in the local supermarket. Below Milky, it says "sabure" which means "sablé" (I guess that's a French shortbread). At the bottom of the box a message informs us that they have a half-cooked texture. Indeed, the cookies were of the softer variety and tasted like fake cookie dough. The outer ring is not delicious, but it's fine. The center, while still clearly being a cookie, was very sweet and soft and tasted way to much like the taffy version of Milkys.

Ratings:
Gaybot: 3.5 I considered giving them a four because they're edible, but I will definitely never purchase them again.
Girlbot: 2 She only ate half a cookie.

Country Ma'am Yaki Imo Review

Japanese Food Review #69

First off, yes, it's hilarious that this is the 69th review. Secondly, we're all super excited about the conclusion of "Potato Dessert Challenge Week." I'm sure you remember that Haagen-Daz Murasaki Imo received an outstanding 8.5 overall rating. How will Country Ma'am's entrant fare? You'll have to look a couple of inches below to find out! It's no secret that I enjoy a good Country Ma'am cookie. This is one of their autumn limited edition flavors. Yaki imo literally means "cooked potato," but actually they're baked sweet potatoes. Again, the cookies really did taste like sweet potatoes. The package has instructions for heating the cookies in the microwave or toaster oven. I ignored this and ate them at room temperature. I apologize if this unfairly affected the results.

Ratings:
Gaybot: 7.5  They were quite good, but they didn't feel as unique as the ice cream.
Girlbot: 6  She says they were good but not great. She also said eating them made here think, "Fall has arrived."
Overall: 6.75

A  valiant effort by Country Ma'am, but in the end, Haagen-Daz was just too much for Japanese cookie makers.

JFR #18: Ginger Chocolate Chip Cookies

This is another Country Ma'am limited edition cookie. It boasts that ginger made in Japan is used, and, since it's a summer cookie, you are supposed to cool the cookies before eating them. I think I bought this just because of the picture on the front. I really want lemon tea with chunks of ginger flavored cookies. I will say it's been awhile since I've had ginger bread or ginger cookies, but I do have a special place in my heart for those foods. The addition of chocolate chips seemed like a bad idea, but that's not why these cookies were horrible. They aren't ginger cookies. They're chocolate chip cookies with large chunks of ginger inside. Way too much ginger.

Girlbot: NA  I don't know if it's clear, but more and more I've basically had to beg girlbot to try some of these snacks. For some reason she decided this would be the most disgusting food ever and started gagging when I tried to get her to smell it.

Japanese Food Review 2: Matcha Ice Cream Country Ma'am Cookies

Country Ma'am is a very popular chocolate chip cookie in Japan. The texture reminds me a bit of Chips Ahoy's chewy cookies, but the flavor is much better. They, like many Japanese snack companies, release new flavors several times a year. The standard and most popular cookie is vanilla, but there are at least 20 different flavors.

  

 

How many times has this happened to you? You're trying to enjoy 16 individually wrapped chocolate chip cookies, but you can't stop thinking about how the flavor is nothing like matcha ice cream. Your prays have been answered. This cookie has two layers. The inside seems to be a small vanilla flavored cookie with chocolate chips, while the outside is the green, matcha flavored cookie (I'm not sure what the difference between matcha flavored and matcha ice cream flavored is, but I didn't detect any ice cream flavor, unless the flavor of ice cream is sugar). It tastes good, but not as good as vanilla. The package suggests cooling the cookies in the refrigerator. Tried it. Tastes like a cold cookie. It also suggests putting it in the microwave to give it that fresh from the oven taste. Tried it. It came out the microwave looking wet, but, and this is a miracle of science, it really did taste like it was fresh from the oven. On to the ratings.

girlbot: 3 (again, I don't know what she's thinking. She took one bite and said it was awful this      time.  Why? Because she doesn't like anko (sweet red beans), but there is no anko flavor. I pointed this out. I guess she thought the chocolate chips were beans. She took another bite but didn't change her verdict. It's seriously like having a robot participate in a taste test. Anyway....)
